The Smithsonian Magazine is bringing back their well loved and appreciated Free Museum Day, on September 21, 2019. Museums and cultural institutions around Austin, Texas are also getting into the spirit.
So here is a small list of Museums in Austin, Texas that are participating in the program, and even some that have free admission year round!
Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
Re-Named after Helen Hayes, the former first lady, Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center was founded in 1982 to keep safe and showcase the native plants of the USA landscape.
Attendees are introduced to over 284 acres of property covered with over 800 native Texas plants!

Mexic-Arte Museum
Visitors of all age can come and learn about contemporary Mexican, Latino, and Latin-American culture, art and traditions at the Mexic-Arte Museum.
Their exhibits currently include a Día de los Muertos Community Altar, showcasing the historical and religious holiday. The museum also has exhibits commenting on the current discussions in the world relating to immigration reform and the death penalty.

Neill-Cochran House Museum
In existance only 20 years less then Austin itself, the Neill-Cochran House Museum showcases a much simpler and earlier time for Austin.
The grounds has room on displays, and controversially, but definitely something that should be seen is the last surviving living/work space for slaves within Austin.
