  • Pokemon originally found in Johto will be appearing in Raids.

  • Speaking of Dunsparce, it’s now available in Shiny!
  • Pikachu will be available in the wild wearing an Umbreon hat.
  • Special, timed research will reward Johto Pokemon. Complete all these tasks within the allotted time to get a Ho-oh that knows Earthquake.
  • Pretty sweet, right? Just like last week’s Kanto event, all of these tasks can be completed from the comfort and safety of your own home.

So, let’s take a deeper look at Dunsparce, the newest addition to Team Shiny!

    Spotlight on Dunsparce

Dunsparce is just an odd little Pokemon. Based loosely on a Japanese Cryptid called the Tsuchinoko, or bee snake though it reminds me of Quetzicoatl, it’s a snake with little wings, a drill on its tail and a big mouth. The Pokedex tells us that this Pokemon is super, super shy and if you see one you’re lucky. It will escape being spotted by drilling backwards with its tail. It lives in complex mazes of tunnels underground which it happily shares with Diglett. It can actually use those cute little wings to float a little above the ground. Weird!

With a Max CP of 1689, Attack of 131, Defense of 128 and Stamina of 225, this little flying snake is a little underwhelming. It’s a pure Normal Type, meaning it has only one resistance in the Ghost Type, but only one Weakness in the Fighting Type.

In terms of Fast Attacks, you’ve got Astonish and Bite, neither of which are STAB (I guess Niantic decided this poor kid needed nerfing? Yikes.) Then, for Charged Attacks, you get Dig, Drill Run and Rock Slide… again, no STAB options.

Shiny Dunsparce swaps its blue belly for a pinkish-red. Should be easy to spot!

Well, that’s what we’ve got for you for this week’s event, Trainers! Are you excited to snag a Shiny Dunsparce? (Seriously… can we get an evolution for this thing or something? I feel bad picking on it, it’s cute, but dang.) As always, I wish you the absolute best of luck, happiness and health!
