Hey guys, welcome back to another breakdown for the San Diego Comic Con press conference for Fear The Walking Dead! We had the chance to continue covering them and the opportunity to ask some zombie questions. I had to say, that this year was a fun one to cover. The panel had a chance to talk and cover many things about the show.
Being in the apocalypse of zombies, the characters are very good at surviving. Some of the cast got to talk about if they have a zombie apocalypse plan in case it really happens. Some cast member’s agreed that it’s always on their minds now. Like when driving by a forest, instead of thinking about a wonderful camping trip, that it would be cool if zombies came out. Others replied that they have dreams of fighting zombies and scare their wives in the middle of the night. Meanwhile, one of the writers of the show admitted that as they were writing it, there’s no way they would survive at all.
Some people were curious of the relationship between Morgan and Alicia since they do a lot of work together on the show. It was great to hear that both Lennie James, who plays Morgan Jones, and Alycia Debnam-Carey, who plays Alicia Clark, agreed to each other being their own type of leader and the chemistry just works on and off the set. It was spoken that their characters don’t like to get close to people due to experience of losing people along the journey. However, this has made Morgan take a human path to connect, and Alicia protects but stays back. It was also noted we might see their path switching as the season continues.
Lennie James also mentioned about how diverse the show is, and that’s what makes it so unique. He got to discuss about what makes someone a “bad-ass”, no matter age. He notes this because he is one of the oldest cast members. Giving the example, Lennie related Alicia and Carol in the show, and how they have had two very different experiences in two different shows. He state that besides their notable age difference, they are both considered a “bad-ass.” He also continued to say that you don’t have to just be a “bad-ass” to survive in their world, and that’s what makes it more interesting, giving diversity to the show.
One thing that was different this year, was that the cast spoke of how they take care of themselves when doing the show. They’re facing the apocalypse for a majority of the day, for months at a time. Some of the cast answered they wind down by experiencing something positive. Like watching a funny sitcom, or show, while relaxing in bed. A big answer, that stood out to me, was that its important to know how to separate your personal and social life from your work and business life. They stated that separating from their characters when off set is crucial to staying sane and continuing to be themselves.
As usual, we also had the opportunity to ask a question. I personally asked Austin Amelio, who plays Dwight, how he reacted to the opportunity to come back and work on Fear The Walking Dead after The Walking Dead. Amelio, joking with show runner Scott M. Gimple, heard Fear The Walking Dead was moving to Austin, Texas and said “Wouldn’t it be funny if Dwight went down to Texas.” A couple months later Amelio got the call to go work on Fear The Walking Dead and loves doing it especially filming in the town he grew up in, and being around all the wonderful people.
Of course there were spoiler questions, that no one would answer, and we were told to tune in for the rest of season 5 to find out more.
We suggest that you do as they say, and catch the new episodes of Fear The Walking Dead on Sundays. The show returns on August 11, 2019 for the second half of the Season on AMC.
