What One and Eleven Took From Each Other

Something didn’t sit well with me with regards to the character of Vecna after having watched the conclusion of season four of Stranger Things.

While the character of Vecna, or One is imposing, terrifying, and incredibly interesting, there’s something really weird about their modus operandi.

As we specifically talked about in our prior article, which can be found Here, the use of Vecna’s spell did not need to crush the bodies and destroy the eyes of Vecna’s victim to be able to open the gate, the spell just needed to consume the person’s soul to open the gate.

So our question is, why did Vecna still shatter all the bones of his victim’s bodies when opening the gates to the upside down?

When he was a child, that was how he killed his mother and sister, he even attempted to kill his father in the same method.

Rarely do murderers and killers revert back to earlier forms of their murders after they’ve changed their patterns. When he was a young adult he just quickly and easily killed his targets.

So why did Vecna regress after finding himself banished to the Upside Down?

Our other prior article discussed the creation of the upside down, see that article Here. Within that article we believe that Will Byer created Hawkins in the Upside Down, so at the moment prior there was no Creole House in the Upside down, but Will Byer created it by accident.

While I know it’s a theory on a theory, stick with us for a second. One possible outcome of the events of the Upside Down Hawkins being created is that Vecna stumbled upon his childhood home in the Upside Down and regressed. We don’t have any evidence of that, but we do have a different form of evidence as to why Vecna regressed in his killing style.

The other theory deals with the fight that took place between Eleven and Vecna back when he was simply One. The power style of Vecna and Eleven is oddly identical in comparison to the other powered people of the world of Stranger Things showcased in season three. This is important because they both seem to use the same ability against one another when fighting years in the past.

However, after the fight between One and Eleven we discovered that Eleven has no personal memories of the event and even regresses power wise, and developmentally. So if One and Eleven’s powers are so similar, and they both used the same ability on each other in the fight, then why did only Eleven mentally regress?

Prior to the fight Eleven could talk, had relationships with people, and had full control of her powers. If the powers are the same, and the effects as well, it would make sense that in attacking and banishing One and creating Vecna, she regressed him mentally as well.

That would explain a couple issues we had with Vecna. Specifically his regression on killing style, and the lack of anger toward Doctor Brenner. He didn’t even have any pleasure or concern when learning that Brenner is gone. He was so angry at Brenner for his treatment that he literally killed an entire facility of people including children. Now he doesn’t care about him?

It’s more likely that the hate and aggression were blocked or repressed by Eleven’s damage to his brain. That his last memory was of being banished by Eleven, and it stuck in his mind more than anything else outside of his childhood memories.

In fact we even see One walking through the Upside Down in the second part of season four with the amusement and interest of a child, complete with his view and love of spiders from his childhood.

Hopefully you found some of our ponderings and theories interesting, we’ll see you guys in our next theory!
