Rochelle Visits The Klimt Immersive Experience

Being an art student once upon a time, I love art museums and exhibits. And when you add some immersive elements like light, sound, a VR experience to Gustav Klimt’s work, I’m sold!

Before we go into more details of the event, we want to remind people that we are still within the thralls of a pandemic, and recommend people check out our article on “If You Should Go Out” Here. At this event, they take Covid precautions seriously. All attendees must show proof of vaccination to attend for ages 12 and up. This event is family-friendly and COVID-safe. It’s all digital, hands free, and socially distancing is easy for this large space.

Klimt is well-renowned for his “golden phase” of modern painting, “The Kiss” being one of his most renowned – and my favorite – pieces by him! The first two rooms are very much like a typical art exhibit. Read facts about his life and the historical happenings that surrounded and influenced him. But as you make your way deeper into the experience, it feels more and more like you’re stepping into the wonderland of his mind as our modern technology advances you along. Digital projections over one of his modernist paintings, and a hanging replica of his painting deconstructed. Walk through a bright tunnel of gold to a large room that encapsulates the most immersive part yet: floor to ceiling you are surrounded by his work on-screen. A symphony of colors moves with epic music that transports you into his work, from his landscapes to his portraits of nude women, to his golden phase. It’s visually delightful, and all so serene and meditative for me.

To immerse yourself even more, you have the option to take part in the 10 minute VR component, which gives you a 360-degree view of some of his most notable pieces, complete once more with a soundtrack that matches how iconic his work is.

Fun fact: This event shares a space with the Dinos Alive Exhibit, so check out both events if you’re in the Montebello area.

This hour-long exhibit will run through February 17th, and will be back once the Monet experience finishes, on rotation.
