Conner’s Critiques: Death To 2020

All of us here at Nerd News Social had a rough time this year. We did our best, but we honestly are done with this year, and apparently so is Netflix! They recently released their Mockumentary making fun of all the things that happened this year, including the pandemic. So lets delve into whether or not this will be the movie to help you get over the worst year of your life.

Like normal, this critique will be based on three categories: Story, Acting, and Overall. So lets begin.

STORY: 5/10
There isn’t one. The only story is the progression through time. I will give credit to the writing for the characters that represent the characters through the world.

Stand outs for how well written they are is Lisa Kudrow, a merger of Kellyanne Conway and Kayleigh McEnany, a Trump administration sycophant who is devoid of the truth and Christin Milioti, a QAnon racist housewife.

When all is said and done, there isn’t a lot of things to specifically talk about story wise, besides the topics we all lived through in the year. It’s not really not their fault.

ACTING: 8/10
It’s hard to tell how much is written and improv, with the talented people in the movie it is made even harder. Samuel L. Jackson does a great job representing a journalist done with 2020, being one of the biggest names in the movie, along with Laurence Fishburne as the narrator.

One of the best acted characters was definitely Hugh Grant’s performance as Tennyson Foss, a historian who has merged pop culture into his memory of his studies of history. Also he is racist… I mean there is a lot of racism covered here. I’d love to spend hours talking about every one in this mockumentary, but there are just so many great performances in this movie from people like Kumail Nanjiani, Tracey Ullman, Samson Kayo, Leslie Jones, Diane Morgan and Joe Keery.

OVERALL: 8/10
This is a fun movie, and a good way to send off the year, however, I will specifically say if you’ve lost someone, or personally experienced racism, or police brutality then this movie might cause a bit of pain to you.

If you can laugh through your pain, like many of us try, then this might be able to get you in the mood.

Conner’s Final Thought(s):
Of all the things I can suggest with this film, is make sure to stick around through the credits for some extra humor. They “record” extra lines from the mockumentary’s “experts” about what could happen in 2021. I hope some of the things come true, but it made me laugh out loud.
