So, let’s throw on some water wings and check in with the star of the show!
Spotlight on Quaxly
I don’t think it’s terribly controversial to say Quaxly is the fandom’s least favorite Starter from Generation IX, and it’s not even close. Fuecoco is so cute and goofy but the final form really steals the show. Despite going from quadruped to biped, Sprigatito is the generation’s obligatory fur-bait and man… does that snag it way more street cred than you’d expect. Quaxly starts off cute but then goes right into awkward territory and then it’s just kind of a weird, overdesigned mess with Quaquaval. So many shapes, so many patterns… it’s kind of a lot.
Still! I’m sure it has its fans! I like it well enough. The Pokedex tells us that this Pokemon wasn’t originally from Paldea, but instead migrated there from a different region long ago. It likes to remain clean and tidy, which it achieves by secreting a viscous fluid from its feathers that repels water and mud. It loves to swim and has strong legs that help it fight tough currents.
Quaxwell is known to train by watching other Pokemon and even people intently, absorbing the way they move and incorporating elements of what it learns into its own dances. It sprints through shallow waters to train its leg muscles so that it may dance more fluidly and kick harder!
Spotlight on Quaquaval
Quaquaval is, likewise, a Pokemon that observes others and dances in a way that might be reminiscent of dances and moves from far off lands. It can punt a truck quite some distance with its kicks and slice foes with feathers made of water.
But can it punt its opponents in Pokemon GO?
With a Max CP of 3411, 236 Attack, Defense of 159 and a Stamina of 198, it’s lacking the defense to stick around for long. It dances ferociously, but the hottest flames burn out the fastest, right? Even though it’s a Water Type! Being part Fighting Type as well it’s weak to Electric, Fairy, Flying, Grass, and Psychic type moves, and strong against Bug, Dark, Fire, Ice, Rock, Steel, and Water type moves.
In terms of Fast Attacks, you have Wing Attack and Water Gun. For Charged Attacks you get Aerial Ace, Aqua Jet, Close Combat, and Liquidation. The Community Day option of the Charge Attack Hydro Cannon is also available if you evolve your Quaxly or Quaxwell to Quaquaval during the event.
Shiny Quaxly is a little trickier to spot as it’s blue areas simply become a little lighter. Be careful when shiny hunting!
And that’s all I have for you this month, Trainers! Be safe out there, stay hydrated, have fun and be kind! I’ll see you all next month!
