Pokemon GO – Agumon Community Day!

    UPDATE
    APRIL FOOLS!

Hey, Trainers. Boy, do we have a doozy of a Community Day coming up.

In a cross-promotion event to promote the Vital Bracelet and Digimon TCG, Toei and Bandai-Namco have teamed up with Niantic for another cross-over event within Pokemon GO. If you’ll remember, Toei is no stranger to Pokemon GO as they are also the company responsible for the One Piece anime and we have the Luffy hat Pikachu already.

For the unfamiliar, the Vital Bracelet is a fitness tracker within which lives a Digimon. Pulsemon is the default, but you can get other DM Cards to gain access to different monsters, including Agumon.

Considering the Vital Bracelet is a fitness themed device, it works well with the concepts and values held dear by Pokemon GO as well. Unfortunately, as someone who has tried to get the Vital Bracelet here in the U.S…. it didn’t work out. Still. America isn’t the only country in the world and Community Day is a day for everyone, everywhere so I can’t be too salty about it!

There’s also the Digimon Trading Card Game to consider.

While not as well known as the Pokemon Card Game, it’s still a valid contender in the card game arena alongside Magic and Yu-Gi-Oh. Hopefully this event gives it a little more traction in the marketplace. Anyway! Date and time is Saturday the 11th of April, 11:00am till 5:00pm. Six hours of fun. Bonuses are:

  • For $1 or your local equivalent you’ll gain access to A Digital Discovery: Agumon! It’s a Special Research Quest.
  • In the Shop you’ll find a Community Day Box containing 50 (!!!) Ultra Balls, three Magnetic Lure Modules (Perfect for a Digital critter. Why didn’t they do this for Porygon?) An Elite Charged TM and 3 Super Incubators.
  • 3x Stardust – 4.5x if you pop some Lucky Eggs!
  • Timed Research containing Koromon Candies and Poffins as prizes, among other things.
  • Incense dropped during event hours lasts 3 hours.
  • Photobombs! 5, if past events are any indication.
  • New Avatar Item in the form of Goggles befitting the leader of the Digidestined.
  • Agumon will breach the barrier between worlds and wander aimlessly for you to catch!
  • Koromon will hatch from 2Km Eggs.
  • If you’re lucky, you can catch a Shiny Agumon or hatch a Shiny Koromon.
  • Not bad! Oh, and I don’t want to be That Guy… but I kind of called This.

Anyway! Let’s take a look at the star of the show, shall we?

    Spotlight on Koromon

So, technically, this isn’t the main ‘Mon on display, but it IS the start of the line for Agumon’s family so we might as well start here.

There isn’t a huge amount of data on this data-based Digimon. It’s an In-Training Digimon, so, a baby. It’s a Fire Type but knows Bubble and Bubblebeam and that’s all it can learn. No TMs will work on it either. As an In-Training form, it can’t do much battling so I guess the Type mismatch and limited movepool works with the lore. It’s insatiable and will eat almost as much food as you can find for it so keep those Poffins and Berries handy!

And here we have it, the focus of this Community Day! Agumon is a dinosaur-like monster that has grown stronger and is able to walk around on two legs and fight with fire and claws. Even though it’s only a Rookie, it doesn’t understand the concept of fear and will fight ferociously no matter the odds! Its appetite, much like its body, has grown exponentially.

When Agumon evolves, it becomes Greymon. Greymon is a massive dinosaur with an armored head and a wicked bite. It’s a fierce warrior that won’t back down under any circumstances… but don’t think of it as a brute. Nothing could be further from the truth. If you can tame one, you’ll get to see not only its loyalty, but its intelligence too.

And that’s all well and good… but can it go toe to toe and claw to claw in Pokemon GO?

With a Max CP of 3266, Attack of 223, Defense of 173 and Stamina of 186, this ‘Mon can definitely charge into battle to do some damage, but you’re going to want to dodge any Charged Attacks you feasibly can. As a pure Fire Type, it is weak to Water, Ground and Rock Type moves, while resisting Ice, Bug, Fire, Steel, Fairy and Grass Type moves.

In terms of Attacks, it’s still more limited than other Fire Types. Scratch, Ember and Fire Fang are its Fast Attacks, latter two being STAB. In terms of Charged Attacks you’ve got Crunch, Flamethrower, Fire Blast and the Community Day Exclusive move, Blast Burn. Take Blast Burn and if you can get enough Candies, buy Crunch as a secondary Attack.

Shiny Agumon is a slick looking black color so super easy to spot!

As always Trainers…. well, Tamers this time I guess, I wish you the absolute best of luck, health and happiness! Don’t forget that last one, it’s super important.
