Happy New Year, Trainers! I hope you had a fantastic holiday season and are geared up and redy to GO this year! 2024 is going to be a good one; I can feel it!
Especially since we’re starting it off right with a Community Day pretty much everyone was expecting and I think no-one could possibly have a problem with: Rowlet!
The date and time? Saturday January 6th, 2:00pm till 5:00pm local time!
What bonuses can we expect?
Now, let’s see who’s who with our hooting little friend, Rowlet!
Spotlight on Rowlet
As the Generation 7 Grass Starter, Rowlet has gotten a lot of attention over the past few years. In my opinion, it’s easily the strongest of the Alolan Starter Trio design-wise from first through third forms as well. It partnered up with Ash in the Pokemon Sun and Moon anime as well which essentially prevented him from getting a Pikipek! Ash always snags an early Route bird in the anime. Pidgeotto, Noctowl, Swellow, Starly, Pidove, Fletchling. All Pokemon Ash has had on his team. And then along comes Generation 7 and it seems to me that Rowlet took the place of this ever-present category of ‘mon for our perpetually 10 year old protag.
And I’m not even mad at it.
The Pokedex is a little thin on the ground in regards to interesting facts because our round fellow here has only been available in a couple games. Still, it was a Starter option in Hisui of all places! So there’s that. Anyway, what little we do know goes like this: it stores energy from the sun during the day to keep itself active at night. Like an adorable little solar battery. It then attacks foes in prey one of two ways – it flies silently behind them before throwing dagger-sharp feathers in their direction. Or, if it gets in close enough, it delivers vicious kicks with those li’l grippers. It does enjoy dark, tight fitting spaces for nesting purposes.
Dartrix has emo hair and a bowtie.
That’s it. That’s all the relevant information on Dartrix.
Then, it evolves into Decidueye. Now, we’re going to be focusing on the standard or Alolan Decidueye in this Spotlight as that’s what we’re dealing with during this Community Day. The basic information we have on this form is that it can knock and fire an arrow in 1/10th of a second, meaning it can pepper you with holes in the blink of an eye. It’s silent while doing this too, so, you’d never know you were got till after the fact! Yowch! It hides these arrow quills amongst the feathers in its wings. When it needs a little extra focus, it tugs on the vine on its head to make sure it’s in the moment.
But can it perforate all its opponents in Pokemon GO?
With a Max CP of 3137, Attack of 210, Defense of 179 and Stamina of 188, it definitely leans more into the glass cannon type of monster. It’s a Grass/Ghost Type and that makes it somewhat unique amongst it’s Grass Starter peers – it shares this type combo with Trevenant (Max CP 2893, Att 201, Def 154 and Sta 198) and Gourgeist (Max CP 2976, Att 182, Def 200 and Sta 198) and is clearly a little better than either. It resists Fighting and Normal Type attacks especially with regular resistances to Electric, Ground, Water and Grass. It takes increased damage from Ghost, Fire, Ice, Dark and Flying Type attacks, though.
In terms of fast Attacks you have Razor Leaf, Magical Leaf, Leafage and Astonish – all STAB. In terms of Charged Attacks we have Brave Bird, Shadow Sneak and Energy Ball, the latter two of which are STAB. The new Community Day moves will, of course, be your best option. I’d snag the extra move slot and have both available for multiple STAB options.
And there we have ti, Trainers! Shiny Rowlet is a beautiful aqua-teal sort of a green and it’s got fantastic colors for the evolved forms as well. Very striking and easy to spot!
As always, I’m wishing you the absolute best of luck out there! And once more, Happy New Year. May we have many more adventures together in the world of Pokemon GO!
