    Spotlight on Togepi

Jim’s hot take – Meowth should have gotten Togepi.

You might not know what I’m talking about if you’re not that into the anime, or didn’t watch this portion of the first arc. Togepi was the first Generation 2 Pokemon we were introduced to and it was during the Indigo League section of the anime. Ash and Co. find a strange yet familiar (Well. It’s familiar now.) looking egg.

After some adventures, the egg hatches into Togepi and there’s a mini tournament to see who gets to keep it. At one point, Meowth had Togepi’s egg and the way he looks after it is literally the most wholesome thing.

He doesn’t want to train Togepi for battle. Meowth has no Pokedex to complete. It’s not a matter of pride for him. He takes part in the tournament to decide who gets to keep Togepi as both a Pokemon and his own Trainer and he goes up against Pokemon to whom he has a type disadvantage! He doesn’t even want to give Togepi to The Bawss like he does every other Pokemon he wants to steal.

Meowth just wants Togepi for the sake of love. And there’s something really nice about that.

Anyway, Togepi was one of the Pokemon to switch Types with the introduction of the Fairy Type in Generation 6. The Pokedex tells us only a few things about this Pokemon – it absorbs and stores pleasant emotions and gifts them back to kind people! There’s an old proverb that states that if you can make a sleeping Togepi stand up, you’ll have good luck!

This is the real star of the show! This is the Pokemon you’re going to be looking at all over the place this Community Day! The Pokedex tells us that this Pokemon appears in front of kind, pure hearted Trainers and showers them with joy and other pleasant feelings! This can take the form of fine down that they sprinkle while flying. In ancient Hisui, no-one had ever seen a wild Togetic! Imagine their faces on this Community Day…

You can evolve Togetic into Togekiss and this is where the line really shines. Togetic is said never to appear in places where there’s strife and turmoil. It will, however, seek out people who respect one another’s rights.

So, can it avoid turmoil in Pokemon GO?

With a Max CP of 3767, Attack of 224, Defense of 217 and Stamina of 198, it can certainly CAUSE some turmoil! It’s a Fairy/Flying Type which means it’s weak to Ice, Rock, Electric, Poison and Steel Type attacks. It’s got a whopping FOUR superior resistances though in Ground, Bug, Fighting and Dragon! Plus regular resistances to Dark and Grass.

In terms of Fast Attacks, you’ve got Hidden Power, Air Slash and Charm (STAB). Charged Attacks are Flamethrower, Ancient Power, Aerial Ace and Dazzling Gleam, the latter two of which are STAB. The Community Day Attack, Focus Blast is Fighting Type and will offer Type coverage against pesky Rock and Steel Types. I’d invest the Stardust and snag Dazzling Gleam as well.

Shiny Togekiss is HARD to spot. The red and blue markings are reversed and that’s essentially it, so, be super careful while Shiny checking. Look for the stars and the yellow text.

That’s all I got for you this month, Trainers! Good luck out there!
